|---|---|---|---|
| Open Enrollment Arizona law allows students to apply for admission to any state public school, based on available classroom space. Open Enrollment applications are approved on a year-by-year basis with no guarantee of continued enrollment. While most campuses in the Dysart Unified School District will have space for Open Enrollment students, some campuses will have closed enrollment because of growing student populations. Transportation is not provided by the District to students enrolled at a school through the open enrollment policy.
Information and Application Approval of applications first requires a determination as to the number of Open Enrollment openings available per school, a process completed by April 15th of each year. Students who have submitted applications will be ranked by priority status. Students on the listing will be notified of their acceptance, to match the predetermined open capacity of the campus; other applications may be placed on a waiting list. Applications not given a priority status will be considered through a random selection process. Priority status listing has been determined to provide preference to certain categories of students. Priority status includes siblings of students attending specialized Dysart programs; students who were granted Open Enrollment the previous year; and, siblings of a student who was granted an approval the previous year. The priority listing helps students retain their Open Enrollment status from year to year, and helps to prevent families from being separated. A separate application must be submitted for each student for whom an open enrollment is being requested. OPEN ENROLLMENT APPLICATIONS If approved and the family chooses to accept the Open Enrollment slot, the student must complete a transfer or registration packet to the approved school no later than June 1, 2008 or forfeit the application. If the April 15 eadline is missed, an Open Enrollment Application may be still submitted but will only be considered after the first ten days of the new school year. If after the tenth day there is available capacity, applications will be considered based on priority status. Once the campus meets or exceeds its capacity, either through Open Enrollment or population growth, the school will be closed to further Open Enrollments. All approved open enrollment transfers must be renewed annually. A pupil who has been expelled by any school district in this state or who is not in compliance with a condition of disciplinary action imposed by any other school or school district or with a condition imposed by the juvenile court shall not be admitted. Acceptance for enrollment may be revoked upon finding the existence of any of these conditions; or, if falsification of information is confirmed. Transportation is the responsibility of the parent/guardian. The Dysart School District will not transport students attending under Open Enrollment for any reason. Student parking may not be available on high school campuses. | |||
